From June 26 - July 1, 2008, you are welcome to join us for a beautiful experience, The Festival Folklore of Parintins.  CAPRICHOSO and GARANTIDO bumbás perform the authentic Amazon ritual for about six hours every night.

The Festival Folklore of Parintins, recognized worldwide, happens each year in late June. Caprichoso and Garantido perform with their costumes, music, dancing, gigantic floats, legends and fantasies. The winner presents his show on the last day.  The figures of Father Francisco, Mother Catarina, the Tribal Chieftain, Cunhã Poranga (pretty young girl), shamans and their innumerous tribes talk about legends and indigenous rituals.  Hundreds of costumed people dance in cycles along with the sound of the chants and claps of their hands.

The City of Parintins, population of just over 100,000 people, was founded in 1793 along the bank of the Amazon River on the Tupinambarana Island, about 420 km downstream from Manaus.    The area consists of forests of flood plains and highlands, lakes and a small ridge of mountains that set the border between the States of Amazonas and Pará.

Transportation used by most of the local population on the Amazon to Parintins are the regional boats with passengers sleeping in hammocks. The trip on the Amazon River from Manaus, takes about 18 hours going downstream, and 28 hours upstream back to Manaus.
